University of Lethbridge #9: Informal mediation ends
Bargaining update for Local 053, University of Lethbridge
Oct 15, 2025
Focus turns to our Essential Services Agreement and formal mediation
After several days of mediation and very little progress from the employer, your negotiating team told mediator Rick Wilson that we are ending informal mediation.
We will now focus on completing our Essential Services Agreement (ESA) and will file for formal mediation once our ESA is in place.
Your negotiating team will host a bargaining town hall meeting soon. Join us to ask your negotiating team questions about bargaining and our next steps. We will send an update once we have confirmed dates and times for the town hall.
Essential Services Agreement update
Your essential services negotiating team is scheduled to meet with the employer on October 29 and with the employer and the ESA Umpire on November 14.
The Umpire’s role is to act as a mediator and help us resolve the remaining disputed sections of the ESA. If we are unable to come to an agreement with the employer on November 14, the Umpire has the authority to make binding decisions and finalize the ESA.
The essential services team would like to thank all the members who provided feedback on the employer’s proposed essential services positions.
