University of Lethbridge #8: Summer bargaining recap

Your negotiating team met with the University of Lethbridge on June 16 and August 22 to continue bargaining. Both meetings were held virtually to accommodate busy summer schedules. 

During these meetings, we signed off on the three articles:

• Article 7 – Union Membership and Dues Checkoff
• Article 9 – Time off for Union Business
• Article 15 – Classifications

We also renewed Letter of Understanding 4 – Excessive Workload.

While progress has been slow, we are optimistic that we can come to an agreement in the coming months. The employer has agreed to exchange new comprehensive packages when we meet in October.

Artificial Intelligence

Your team also met with the employer on July 23 for a presentation on artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace. 

While AI may be a new tool in some fields, it also represents a growing threat to our jobs and livelihoods. We must prepare for AI in our workplaces by working with our employer to create policies to deal with this technology. 

Next bargaining meetings

Our next bargaining meetings with the employer are scheduled for October 7, October 28 and 29, and November 13 and 14.
