University of Lethbridge #10: ESA completed, next step is mediation

Bargaining update for Local 053, University of Lethbridge

Dec 09, 2025

Text only block

Your negotiating team has completed negotiations for an Essential Services Agreement (ESA) with the employer.

The next steps are to get the ESA signed by both sides and jointly submitted to the Alberta Labour Relations Board (ALRB) for approval. Once it has been approved and filed, we will apply for formal mediation.

ESAs decide who must keep working during a strike. They are considered necessary to protect life, safety, and public health, as well as maintain the rule of law and public security.

We will be co-ordinating with the employer to appoint a mediator and aim to schedule bargaining dates early in the New Year.

Your negotiating team is also updating our monetary proposals to align with recent major settlements in Alberta.
We appreciate your patience and support during the bargaining process. If you have questions, please contact a member of the bargaining team.
