SAIT: Tone positive while negotiating wages

Bargaining update for Local 039, SAIT

Oct 01, 2025

Text only block

Your negotiating team met the employer on Sept. 24 for bargaining. We focused on raises, and the tone of our discussions was positive overall.

SAIT has offered 12% over four years and referred to possible “sweeteners.” They pointed to the SAIT faculty settlement (12% over four years with minor enhancements) and to other faculty associations that have accepted similar terms.

We told SAIT that we do our own bargaining, not the faculty association. We need a deal that works for us.

We spent nearly two days revising our monetary proposal, guided by what you shared in our member survey and elements of the deal accepted by AUPE members employed by the Government of Alberta (GOA).

However, SAIT said the GOA deal does not align with realities in post-secondary education.

We have already discussed most non-monetary items, but there may be more progress on establishing a new harassment article. This is encouraging.

We hope to meet the employer again at the end of November.

If you have questions, please contact a member of your negotiating team.
