Red Deer Polytechnic: RDP refuses to move on wages

Mediation may be needed to settle this agreement

Your negotiating team met with Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) on Oct. 1 and 2. 

The employer requested clarification and provided a response to some of the key points from our July proposals. We responded with our list of priorities, including improvements to our benefits, spending accounts, and lay-off language.

We let the employer know that their responses leave us questioning whether they actually want to reach a deal—which they indicated was their goal when these meetings began.

We had hoped RDP would come ready to have serious wage discussions, but the employer refused to amend their original proposal. This was disappointing, but your negotiating team is committed to getting you the wages you deserve. We will continue to put pressure on RDP to up their wage offer when we meet in November. 

Next bargaining meetings– Nov. 4 and 5

We were scheduled to meet with RDP again on Oct. 8 and 9, but these dates were cancelled due to schedule conflicts. We have rescheduled bargaining for Nov. 4 and 5.

Getting to mediation

Your negotiating team feels we may need mediation to settle this collective agreement. In order to file for formal mediation, we will first need to complete our Essential Services Agreement (ESA). We can move to informal mediation without an ESA, but only if both parties agree. We will continue to work on our ESA until we meet again in November.
