Portage College: Negotiations for wages and benefits begin
Bargaining update for Local 071 Chapter 008, Portage College

Your negotiating team met the employer on October 15 and 16 to continue bargaining.
We made quick progress on all the remaining non-monetary items. We discussed and signed off on:
- Article 11 – Position Abolishment
- Article 12 – Attendance
- Article 13 – Acting Incumbent
- Article 14 – Hours of Work
- Article 25 – Grievance Procedure
- Article 27 – General Illness
- Article 40 – Leave of Absence
- Article 48 – Job Classifications
- Article 50 – Inclusive Workplace
- Letter of Understanding on Contracting Out Notification and
- Letter of Understanding on Workload Review Process
We soon moved on to negotiating wages and benefits. The employer gave us their offer on the morning of the second day. We spent the majority of that day preparing our response and shared it with the employer at the end of the day. Thanks to your responses to our bargaining survey, we knew what to prioritize in our response.
We will continue negotiations in January, which is when the employer will respond to our counteroffer.
