Nominations are open for AUPE’s elected Executive positions

It’s election time again! This update is for AUPE members interested in running for an Executive position, including critical information on nomination dates and processes.

Over 1,000 delegates will vote to elect our union’s eight-member executive at AUPE’s 48th annual Convention—which runs Oct. 23, 24, and 25, 2025. These positions include:

• President
• Executive Secretary-Treasurer
• Six Vice-Presidents

The theme for this year’s Convention is Union Power, and nothing shows that power quite like grassroots democracy in action.

Please read the information below if you plan to run for an Executive position.

Nomination process

Nomination forms must be submitted by the end of day on Aug. 24, 2025. 

Important note: changes to AUPE Policy 2-9 mean that nominations are no longer accepted from the Convention floor except in specific circumstances. These circumstances are outlined in AUPE Policy 2-9 and 2-10. You can view the updated policies on the Convention page of the AUPE website.

Candidates who submit their nomination form by the Aug. 24 deadline are entitled to the following:

• A candidate statement in the print edition of Direct Impact magazine, which will be mailed to all members prior to Convention. Your candidate statement must be emailed to electionscommittee@aupe.org and must not exceed 500 words. Your candidate statement must be received by Aug. 24. Late submissions will not be printed or published – no exceptions.
• Candidates may also participate in telephone town halls with members. The town halls will take place Sept. 23 and 24. Your Elections Committee will contact nominated candidates with information on how to participate.

All candidates are entitled to send one email message to all Convention delegates. Candidates may also have access to delegate contact lists if time permits.
