The transition of thousands of AUPE members from Alberta Health Services (AHS) to two health-care entities created by the Government of Alberta is raising many questions.

We are aware of your concerns and are working to get answers to all your questions. We will provide information as soon as we have it.

Meanwhile, please contact the Member Resource Centre here or by calling 1-800-232-7284 with your questions.

AUPE has been told that 5,021 AUPE nursing-care members will be transitioned to Assisted Living Alberta (ALA), along with 727 General Support Services (GSS) members. ALA consists of home care, community care and continuing care.

A total of 911 AUPE members will move to Acute Care Alberta (ACA), or one of three Provincial Health Corporations (PHCs) that operate under the ACA umbrella.

The PHCs are Emergency Health Services (EHS), Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) and Give Life Alberta (GLA).

Acute Care Alberta includes care in hospitals and other health facilities.

EHS covers emergency medical services; CCA is for cancer care and research; and GLA works in organ and tissue donation and transplantation.

The transition of AUPE members to ACA breaks down as follows:

  • ACA: 31 GSS members;
  • EHS: 13 nursing-care and 219 GSS members;
  • CCA: 218 nursing-care and 427 GSS; and
  • GLA: Three GSS members.

Transfer notifications will be sent to members by AHS between July 21 and July 24.

AUPE has negotiated transition agreements with AHS. If you encounter any problems or have any questions or concerns about how this restructuring will affect you, please contact the Member Resource Centre immediately.

All transitioning members continue to belong to AUPE. The terms of the most recent collective agreements remain in effect.

We have been told that your-day-to-day work systems and processes will remain the same, including Connect Care and e-People.
