Edmonton – The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) welcomes nearly 200 newly unionized health care workers at Sienna Senior Living Shasta Care Community in Edmonton. These new members overwhelmingly voted to join the union to fight for fair wages and better working conditions.

“We are very happy to welcome these brave new AUPE members who have chosen to unionize their workplace and reclaim their power as workers,” says AUPE Vice-President Bobby-Joe Borodey. “They have taken an important step towards solidarity. Workers are stronger when we stand together.”

Members at Sienna Senior Living Shasta Care Community join the more than 82,000 other AUPE members who are bargaining for new collective agreements this year.

“We are committed to fighting for fair wages and better working conditions for all workers,” says Borodey. “Standing together with determination, we will demand the collective agreements we deserve.”

AUPE is Western Canada’s largest union, representing more than 62,000 health care workers and a total membership of nearly 100,000 strong.
