Coaldale workers vote overwhelmingly to strike
Bargaining update for Local 118 Chapter 001, Town of Coaldale
Sep 03, 2025
AUPE members employed by the Town of Coaldale have voted in favour of strike action.
Your negotiating team thanks all of you for coming out to vote and for giving us a decisive mandate to get the employer back to the bargaining table.
Let us be clear: going on strike is not our first choice, but Coaldale’s Chief Administrative Office (CAO) Kalen Hastings has refused to come to the table and bargain in good faith.
We have heard from many people inside and outside the organization that the employer was already preparing for a lockout. Our strong strike vote is an important step in protecting ourselves. Nevertheless, we once again invite Hastings back to the bargaining table.
Stay tuned for further updates.
Please also ensure you have your MyAUPE account set up with your banking information. If the employer locks us out, this will mean you will not experience any delays in getting your strike pay.
Contact a member of your negotiating team in you need any assistance or have any questions.
