Bargaining continues with a focus on shift call out and award system

Bargaing update for Local 040 Chapter 011, Covenant Health St. Therese Villa

Dec 12, 2025

Text only block

Your negotiating team met with the employer on Nov. 6.  We spent the day discussing the hours of work and the shift call out system. The employer provided a presentation of how the system works and how members access it in two ways: through a computer (internet) or via a cell phone. Members can opt to be a part of the call out system or not at any time.

Your negotiating team also had fulsome discussions about member concerns over how shifts are awarded; based on when the shift needs to be filled (three or more days out); and on shift levelling and seniority as opposed to same day coverage. The first to respond typically is awarded the shift.

We were also able to sign off on Articles 3 & 5 reciprocal rights, where the parties will exercise their rights in a manner which is professional, fair and reasonable in the circumstances, in line with the Collective Agreement.

We are working with the employer to schedule our next meeting dates and will share more details in the next bargaining update. Please contact a member of your negotiating team if you have any questions or concerns.
