AHS GSS: After days of work, we are still far from a deal

Bargaining update for Locals 054, 056, 057, 058, 095, Alberta Health Services General Support Services & Lamont Health Care Centre GSS

Your team met with AHS on December 9 and 10 for bargaining.

We don’t know why the employer even bothered. AHS clearly has no intention of negotiating a fair contract that works for you.

It’s simple. We need good raises to keep up with the cost of living. We need better benefits to help take care of ourselves and our families. We need job security so we can stop stressing out about the future.

AHS refuses to offer us a new deal that meets those needs.

In fact, AHS wants rollbacks, including red circling. Red circling means that, if AHS reclassifies you to a classification that makes less pay, you will still make your higher salary. But now, AHS wants red circled members to make their higher salary for 24 months and then start making the lower classification’s salary.

Ask yourself: why would AHS want to do that?

Your team wants a process to review all our classifications. We want everyone to make the money they deserve. We also want a process for us to fight for market adjustments if AHS does not agree to high enough raises in bargaining.

We are in mediation. Next steps include a strike vote.

Next steps – meetings and town halls in January

We know you are frustrated. We are too. We have not gotten any closer to a good deal.

However, bargaining is a process, and we must work through it. We are in mediation and will continue with our mediated bargaining meetings to hopefully get closer to a deal.

Our next meetings are scheduled for January 13, 27, and 28, 2026, should the employer change their position.

We are also planning telephone town halls. We will hold these events in January, and will send more information when the details are confirmed.

Your team is committed. We all want a good deal at the table. But we must start thinking about a strike vote and what we are all willing to do to fight for what we deserve.

Create your MyAUPE account today so that you can participate in a strike or ratification vote. You can also upload your personal banking information to ensure you receive strike pay quickly.

Please contact a member of your negotiating team if you have questions.
