AHS Nursing Care: AHS is not following our ESA

Bargaining update for Locals 041, 043, 044, 045, and 046, Alberta Health Services Nursing Care

Nov 21, 2025

Your negotiating team is not impressed.

AHS is not following our Essential Services Agreement (ESA). They are doing this to undermine our resolve and break our spirits. But we will not break.

AHS and AUPE signed off on our ESA earlier this year, and there is no reason why AHS should not be able to follow it. There are ways to change and update the ESA if necessary, but AHS is not using those tools.

AUPE is using every option available to enforce our ESA, including legal action.

For now, all that members need to do is be steady and support each other. Nothing is required at this time.

If you are scheduled for a shift that begins before 8:30 a.m. Saturday, you must attend your shift as scheduled. If you are scheduled as a DESW, remain on shift at 8:30 a.m. If you are not scheduled as a DESW, join your fellow members in walking out and joining the strike line at 8:30 a.m.

Email AUPE’s ESA Hotline tomorrow to report any issues with how your management is following the ESA. Email the hotline at: esa.hotline@aupe.org

Mediation continues

Your team is still at the bargaining table. Despite our employer’s refusal to hold up their end of the ESA, our goal is to reach a fair deal before going on strike.

Our strike is still scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 22.
