AHS GSS: The employer sends a new wage offer
Your negotiating team met with the employer on September 16 and 18 for a very focused round of bargaining. The employer responded to and countered several items we proposed in June.
AHS also gave us a wage counteroffer.
The employer proposed a four-year agreement with 3%, 3%, 2%, and 2% wage increases. This is certainly an improvement compared to their first offer, but is still far below what we deserve and what other public sector workers have achieved in bargaining.
General Support Services members are not worth less than other public sector workers, let alone other health care workers. We need raises that keep up with the rising cost of living. Unfortunately, the employer did not propose any other monetary improvements to our contract.
Your team will keep fighting for the raises, benefits, and job security we deserve. We do not know how our employer thinks we are supposed to survive in the modern world where the cost of living goes up and up.
Non-monetary progress and a new mediator
We did make some progress, however, and signed off on the following items:
Article 1 – Definitions
Article 6 – No Discrimination/No Harassment
Article 9 – Discipline Dismissal and Termination
Article 17 – Promotions Transfers and Vacancies
Article 26 – Shift and Weekend Differential
Letter of Understanding 4 – Mutual Agreement to adjust Full-Time Equivalents
Mediator Mark Asbell will assist us with bargaining moving forward. We will schedule mediated bargaining meetings with AHS soon.
Your team thanks you for your patience and solidarity. We must stand together to win the collective agreement we deserve, and that starts with you.
