PWL - Stettler: Benefits plan improved, monetary proposals made

Your negotiating team, in tandem with the Employer, has secured an improved benefits package.

We met with the employer on Oct. 14 and 15 and agreed to a new benefits plan, which will begin on Jan. 1, 2026. This is a major success and offers several improvements. The following are just the highlights:

• Prescription coverage: Previously capped at $1,500 per year, the new plan will have no annual cap;
• Paramedical services: Previously $300 per practitioner (to $2,500 total), the new plan will be $1,000 per practitioner, maintaining the $2,500 overall maximum;
• Dental coverage:

- Basic: Increased from 70% ($1,000 max) to 80% ($2,500 max);
- Major dental: Previously not covered, will be 50% coverage; and
- Orthodontics: New $1,500 lifetime coverage.

• Vision care: New benefit of $200 every 24 months (previously none).

Member premiums will increase a small amount:

•    Single: From $17.68 to $24.01 biweekly; and
•    Family: From $35.69 to $48.63 biweekly.

This could not have been done without your participation in the survey and letting your bargaining committee know your priorities.

We also spent time talking about non-monetary items and there is still some work to do.

We presented our monetary proposals and, while we have not come to agreement, our discussions with the employer were respectful and productive. The employer will respond to our proposals at our next meeting, scheduled for Dec. 12.
