Convention Notes - Day 2

Day 2 of AUPE’s 48^th annual Convention started bright and early. The Scrutineers Committee delivered their Credentials Report, and then Delegates dove right into Executive Officer Elections.

Newly elected President Sandra Azocar thanked outgoing President Guy Smith for his leadership and addressed delegates: “Together, we are the glue that holds this province together, and together we are unstoppable."

Thank you to all the candidates who put their name forward and participated in this important democratic process.

Following a short break, Delegates also heard and approved the Legislative Committee’s Report and discussed Constitutional Resolutions. 

AUPE members engaged in robust and passionate debate over ways to increase worker power, create efficiencies within the union, and the shared values of our union.

Delegates passed resolutions on several issues including:

• The use of electronic voting
• A dues increase, from 1.25% to 1.5%
• Time limits on debate at convention, from 3 minutes per speaker to 2

Presentation of Life Memberships

Convention Day 2 came to a close with the presentation of new Life Memberships. 

Life Membership is the highest honour the union can bestow. All Life Membership recipients have demonstrated the highest level of commitment and service to the union through their actions and their solidarity.
