Athabasca University: Employer's new wage offer still isn’t good enough
Bargaining Update for Local 069, Athabasca University
Nov 03, 2025
AU refuses to move on other key issues
Your negotiating team met with Athabasca University (AU) on Oct. 21 and 22 to continue bargaining.
The employer finally gave us a real response to our July proposal after refusing to increase their wage proposal in September. Their new offer increased slightly—10% over four years, up from 7.5%.
Year 1: 3%
Year 2: 3%
Year 3: 2%
Year 4: 2%
We told the employer that their updated wage proposal is moving in the right direction, but we cannot accept anything less than 12% over four years. Additionally, we also need to settle the following issues in order to move ahead with bargaining:
• Establishing a wage grid;
• Recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation;
• Including mental health in our sick leave provisions;
• The ability to grieve performance assessments.
Our next bargaining dates have been scheduled for November 5 and 6.
