Announcing this year’s Recognition of Activism Leadership award winners
Congratulations to four inspiring young AUPE leaders
Aug 14, 2025
Every year, the Young Activists Committee (YAC) presents the Recognition of Activism Leadership (RALY) award to young AUPE members to celebrate leaders whose activism goes above and beyond. We recognize these members as the future of our movement.
Young AUPE workers are lifting up their fellow members, building our power, and fighting for improved wages and working conditions for all workers. These young workers are on the frontlines, continuing the legacy of all workers that came before them.
The RALY Award shows young members that we appreciate the significant contributions they are making to support young activists' participation within AUPE.
This year there are four inspiring RALY award recipients leading our union into the future.
Kimoy Marston, Local 002
Kimoy has been a dedicated union activist for over a decade, active in Edmonton, Red Deer, and Calgary. She has served three consecutive terms on the Young Activists Committee, amplifying youth voices and engaging members of all ages. Serving her second term as Secretary for Local 002, acting as a trusted worksite contact, and being involved in Calgary Area Council meetings, Kimoy supports her fellow members in multiple capacities. Kimoy’s drive, compassion, and dedication make her a true role model for all of her fellow members.
Bryce Stovel, Local 012
Bryce became an engaged AUPE activist after just one month of being a member. At his very first Chapter meeting, he was quick to volunteer to be a Convention delegate. In the short time since then, Bryce has been a valuable resource to his fellow members as a worksite contact, is now the Vice-Chair for his Chapter, and will once again be a Convention delegate. Bryce’s energy and enthusiasm is infectious, motivating his fellow members to be more excited and engaged.
Shannon Splinter and Kevin Gray, Local 069
Shannon and Kevin were jointly nominated and awarded, as they have gone through their AUPE journey in tandem. Both joined their Executive together, as Secretary and Treasurer, and have demonstrated their dedication to supporting their fellow members. They also both serve on their Bargaining Committee, fighting for fair wages and working conditions for their coworkers. They bring a balance of pragmaticism, empathy, and boundless energy to their roles and inspire their fellow members every day.
This year was a particularly strong showing of dedicated young activists fighting for workers across the province. For the first time, the Young Activists Committee presented the Future of AUPE Certificate to ten deserving young members.
