AHS Nursing Care: back to the bargaining table and ESA progress

Your negotiating team has been hard at work since our town halls in June. 

Thanks to you, AHS has agreed to return to the bargaining table in September. 

We are disappointed AHS cannot meet over the summer, but we are eager to get back to bargaining and have scheduled meetings on September 17 and 25. 

ESA Update 

We and AHS have also agreed on our Essential Services Agreement (ESA). President Guy Smith signed the ESA on July 16, but that does not mean the ESA is finalized nor are we able to go to mediation.  

There are still several steps to go before the process is finished, including getting AHS to sign the ESA and have it approved with the Alberta Labour Relations Board. The timing is out of our hands, but we are optimistic that the ESA will be finalized by the time we get to bargaining in September.  

Once the ESA is finished, we can move bargaining to formal mediation, if necessary.  

But what happens if formal mediation fails? That is when your negotiating team will take a long look at all our options, including asking you to take a strike vote. 

Thank you for your patience and for joining us at our town halls. Your solidarity is what pushed AHS back to the table, and all Nursing Care members should be proud. Bargaining is not over yet, and we will need even more strength and solidarity to win the raises, benefits, and strong public health care system we deserve.
