There’s no better time to step outside than in the summer. And no better reason than to stand in solidarity with your fellow AUPE members. As temperatures rise, so does our momentum.
Members are organizing info pickets, solidarity walks, and community-building events at their worksites across the province. We are taking action to show our strength and prepare to take the next big steps in bargaining.
“These events aren’t just feel-good gatherings. They’re strategic actions that help members connect, get informed, and stay mobilized,” says Justin Huseby, AUPE Executive Secretary-Treasurer. “They remind us we’re not alone, and they show employers that we’re watching, we’re united, and we’re ready.”
“You don’t need a crowd of hundreds—though that’s always a bonus. You just need a few committed coworkers, a shared issue, and the courage to be seen.”
Info pickets are a simple and effective way to get your message out and practice walking a picket line.
They are a low-cost, high-impact way to spotlight the issues that matter most to you and your coworkers. Whether you’re spreading news about bargaining delays, disrespect at the table, or chronic short-staffing that undermines public services, an information picket gets your message in front of your coworkers, your community, and the public.
They’re legal, low-risk, and attention-grabbing. Plus, you don’t have to do it alone. AUPE is here to help. Reach out to AUPE’s Organizing department—they can walk you through the steps and support your event. The Organizing department can help with:
- Postcard creation and printing.
- Messaging support and media tips.
- Materials like posters, tables, and bull horns.
- Promoting your event to your coworkers, nearby worksites, and the public.
“That’s why we’re encouraging all AUPE Locals and Chapters to plan something this summer, no matter how small. Every info picket and worksite action lay the foundation for stronger collective actions in the fall.”
Info pickets and other solidarity events can happen outside of work hours, during breaks, or before or after shifts.
“You don’t need a crowd of hundreds—though that’s always a bonus,” says Huseby. “You just need a few committed coworkers, a shared issue, and the courage to be seen.”
Along with info pickets, you can organize:
- Solidarity walks that draw attention while bringing coworkers together.
- Lunch ‘n’ Learns that inform and inspire.
- Barbecues and ice cream events that engage members and lift spirits.
- Walk-ins and breaktime rallies that keep momentum alive right at the worksite.
- Practice pickets that help members get comfortable with showing up and being seen.
Solidarity is contagious. When one worksite takes action, it inspires others to follow.

By practicing now, we build the skills and the courage we need to take bigger steps together.
Every solidarity action makes us stronger. Every picket line tells a story. Every sign, chant, or conversation helps shift the balance of power.
This summer, let’s show employers that we’re not backing down. We’re organizing, we’re visible, and we’re just getting started.
This is our summer of solidarity. Let’s make it count.
